Preparing Biotech Leaders to Address Global Needs.

Biotechnology has been a disruptive technology in the life sciences industry, especially in biomedical therapeutics and diagnostics.

Continued success in the biotechnology industry requires the application of extraordinary leadership and management skills in addition to scientific innovations.

It’s a challenging and inspiring time to be a changemaker in the life sciences industry.

If you are ready to make an impact in healthcare biotechnology, you’ve found the right place.

UC Davis is internationally known as the leader in biotechnology innovations and cutting-edge applied research. Our programs in biotechnology and healthcare are consistently ranked among the top nationally and globally.

In the 70s, companies and universities in Northern California pioneered the use of biotechnology in healthcare. Since then, California has become a global hub of biotechnology innovation, home to the world’s largest biotechnology companies, Genentech and Amgen on the pharmaceutical front and Beckman Coulter (a Dahaher company) Cepheid and Roche on the diagnostics front. This has fostered a growing ecosystem offering unsurpassed opportunities. We’re the catalyst to create critical bridges between academia and the biotech industry.

As a UC Davis MBA student, our Biotechnology Industry Immersion offers you an educational experience unlike any other.

In the pre-Immersion course in Fall, we introduce you to the science used in the  biotechnology industry and a framework for understanding the complex forces that shape and drive it.

In the cornerstone Immersion course in Winter, you’ll hear about several management processes used in the industry for activities such as product development, manufacturing, regulations, and challenges and opportunities while starting up a biotechnology company. You’ll team up with Ph.D. and master’s students in biotechnology fields to develop solutions to live case studies presented by top industry executives.

In the field studies course in Spring, you’ll experience exclusive visits to biotechnology companies across Northern California, learn about their operation and management processes, and network with several levels of the management team. During the visit you will also learn about these manager’s journey to their current position, an awe inspiring experience.

Finally, we encourage students to explore the network they just created for internship opportunities to round-up their learnings.

Our courses and extracurricular activities are designed to build on UC Davis’ global leadership in biotechnology and connect you to the expertise and network on campus—and well beyond.

There are many rewarding careers awaiting you in the biotechnology Industry, which has an increasing demand for all types of skills: finance, operations, marketing, communications, R&D and management.

We’re confident that no other business school and university in the world can match the breadth of biotechnology and business experiences you’ll find in the UC Davis MBA program.

I encourage you to learn more and get in touch if you have any questions.
